WELL KNOWN CITIZEN DIES
JOHN C. CRISWELL, PROSPEROUS FARMER OF ODDS COMMUNITY,
EXPIRES IN MARLIN
The death of John C. Criswell, well-known citizen of Odds, occurred in a Marlin hospital Tuesday afternoon. Deceased had for some time been afflicted with heart trouble of a severe nature. The body was carried to the home of Whit Criswell of this city, brother of deceased, where it was held pending burial.
In his death Falls county loses one of the most progressive developers of its agricultural interest. In farming deceased had prospered to a marked degree, being the owner of some of the choicest land in this section.
Born at Alto, Cherokee county, Texas, March 2, 1858, deceased was nearing his 61st birthday. When but a boy, not yet five years of age, his family moved to this section, where he has resided ever since except for three years in West Texas about 30 years ago.
Deceased was married May 6, 1880, to Miss Amy Manning. His wife survives him. From this union eight children were born. Five are dead. Those living are Mrs. John Erskine of Ben-Hur, Mrs. Frank Barton and Turner T. Criswell of Marlin. Deceased is survived also by one brother, Whit Criswell of Marlin, and four sisters, Mrs. L. W. Hairston of Seymour, Mrs. J. P. Clewis of Florey, Mrs. A. J. Eaves of Odds, and Mrs. G. W. Cross of Thornton.
Deceased was clerk of the Hope Baptist church and had otherwise identified himself in religious work.
The funeral will be held about three o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Criswell cemetery two miles north of Odds with services at the grave.

John Criswell Dies
The death of John Criswell, brother of W. H. Criswell, deceased, who was a Mart pioneer, occurred at a sanitarium in Marlin Tuesday, Feb. 25, resulting from heart trouble. Interment was made in the old family (Criswell) cemetery near Odds, Thursday afternoon, Rev. J. W. Mayfield of Mart officiating.
Deceased has been one of the most prominent citizens of that community for years, his only surviving brother being Whit Criswell of Marlin.
Their nephew, F. F. Criswell, with his sisters, Mrs. W. H. Schneider and Mrs. R. D. Strait of Mart, joined them in Marlin Wednesday, where the bereaved ones had assembled before returning to Odds with the body. Their many friends are sympathetic.
