Ivan K. Weaver
January 19, 1947 - April 11, 2018
EDINBURG – Ivan K. Weaver Jr., 71, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
He was born in Dallas on January 19, 1947 and lived in Edinburg most of his life. Ivan’s family moved to Pharr in 1961, he graduated from PSJA High School in 1964 and attended Pan American University. He loved working with cars. Ivan and Jim Maurer built, restored, and raced cars over the years. He worked for Roberts Chevrolet for many years before working on his own at Downtown Service and later opening his own business, Ivan’s Automotive in the early 1980’s. In 2003 he semi-retired and Keith took over the business. He continued going to the shop daily in between visiting friends and family, hunting, fishing, woodworking, building knives, restoring tractors, as well as a 1956 Chevrolet pickup.
Ivan is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Keith Sr. and Mary Frances.
He is survived by his former spouse, Lois Weaver of Edinburg; two children, Kim (Manuel) Gutierrez of Edcouch, and Keith (Stacy) Weaver of Donna; as well as four grandchildren, Gabriela Gutierrez, Devin, Whitney, and Connor Weaver; two brothers, Lewis Weaver of Pharr and Michael (Becky) Weaver of New Braunfels; four brothers-in-law, Gene (Linda) Guelker, Ronnie (Rita) Guelker, Pete Guelker, Edward (Diana) Guelker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.m., with a 7 p.m. service Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Memorial Event Center, 208 East Canton in Edinburg.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the charity of your choice.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
