William Newell Stone
William Newell (Doodlebug) Stone, a farmer and rancher in the McClanahan community of Falls County, died Tuesday in a Marlin hospital. He was 79.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Ward Street Church of Christ in Marlin, Larry Briggs and James Haney officiating. Burial will be in Criswell Cemetery.
Mr. Stone was born April 29, 1913 in the Criswell community of Falls County. He married Mina Mae Ray on Aug. 19, 1933, in Marlin; she died Feb. 24, 1988.
The couple farmed and ranched in the Big Hill and Criswell communities before moving to McClanahan in 1949. He was a member of Ward Street Church of Christ in Marlin.
Survivors include four sons, Winfred N. Stone of Waco, Aubrey B. Stone of McClanahan, and Larry Keith Stone and Terry W. Stone, both of Georgetown; two daughters, Jo Ann Milnes of Marlin and Mrs. Gene (Nelda B.) Brown of McClanahan; a sister, Lula Mae Stone of Marlin; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family has designated Criswell Cemetery Association or the Ward Street Church of Christ in Marlin for memorials.
Adams Funeral Home in Marlin is in charge of arrangements.
