February 11, 1946 - November 26, 2010
Samuel L. "Buster" King Sr., 64, of Axtell, passed away Friday, November 26, 2010, in a Waco Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 30 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Dr. Waco with the Rev. John Collier officiating. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Buster was born February 11, 1946, in Waco, to Leslie Paul King and Carrie Marie (Moore) King. He graduated from Waco High School and attended McLennan Community College. He also served in the U.S. Marines serving in Vietnam and received two Purple Heart Medals, one Purple Heart Medal with one Star and the Silver Star Medal. He married Deborah Hall in Waco on August 28, 1969. He was Service Officer for Disabled American Veterans, retiring with 17 years of service. He was also a member of DAV Chapter 3, VFW #6008, American Am Vets, American Legion Post 121, Order of the Purple Heart. Buster was also a member of Parkview Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laurel "Kitten" King; and father-in-law, James Daryl Hall.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Deborah King; son, Sam King Jr.; daughters, Tammy Scott and husband, Danny, and Marie King; brothers and sisters, Barbara Sue Truax and husband, Glenn, Linda Hobbs and husband, Woody, Cathy Nicosia, Olive "Tinker" Green and husband, Billy, Kay Groce and husband, Rev. Kerry Groce; 11 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
The pallbearers will be Darryl Truax, Steven Hall, Scott Hall, Michael Groce, Harry Munn, Leslie Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are all friends at VFW Post 6008.
