Madge Holden Criswell
Madge Holden Criswell, 86, of Waco, went home on Jan. 10, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Bro. David Shuttlesworth officiating. Burial will follow at Criswell Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home.
Madge was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Troup to Willard and Emma McElroy. On May 14, 1936, she was married in Marlin to Coy Holden. For most of their married life, the Holdens lived in the Odds Community, Chilton and Valley Mills, where they reared their family. She later became a seamstress and was employed at Gilbreath Manufacturing and the Methodist Home. Madge was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Madge was preceded in death by her husband on July 27, 1975; and a son, John Glen Holden.
Surviving Madge are her sons, Mark Holden and wife, Dixie of Houston, Joe Holden of Waco, Donald Ray Holden and wife, Sherry of Valley Mills, James “Pete” Holden and wife, Connie of Valley Mills; daughters, Coye Jane Holden of Hawaii, Patsy Wetch of Mart, Sue Garvin of Fort Worth, Charlotte Odum and husband, Bobby of Waco, Margie Bundick and husband, Merle of Fort Worth; brother Donald McElroy and wife, Valerie of Bullard; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, John and Steven Holden, Craig Holland, Fred Holland III, B. J. Odum; and nephew, Robin McElroy.
