Emmagene (Collinsworth) Chamberlain
February 17, 1930 - February 9, 2016
Emmagene (Collinsworth) Chamberlain, age 85, died February 9, 2016 in her home surrounded by her family. She entered the gates of heaven with no fear, looking forward to meeting her Lord and reuniting with loved ones. Visitation is set for Friday, February 12 from 6-8 p.m. and funeral service is set for Saturday, February 13 at 3 p.m. in Adams Funeral Home in Marlin, with Rev. Don Fulton officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Emmagene was born on February 17, 1930 to parents, William Elbert and Ethel (Robertson) Maines in Rosenberg, Texas. She was the third of four children; siblings were brothers , Leslie Maines and Willard Maines and twin sister, Geraldene Nehring. They lived mostly in the Criswell community of Falls County. In 1946, Emmagene married James Collinsworth and together they had five children. They lived all over Texas, in Louisiana and Wyoming with Emmagene being a wife and mother while James worked in oil fields or road construction. They settled in Marlin in the early 60s when Emmagene began working at the Owens-Illinois Glass Plant where she was employed for 15 years as a box maker. She later married Howard Chamberlain in 1978 and they worked together farming and ranching, baling hay and running a cow/calf operation. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Her favorite pastimes were fishing at "tank X, Y or Z" with many special fishing partners, watching the Dallas Cowboys and Baylor Bears play (especially the Lady Bears basketball team), traveling with friends and family and listening to the police scanner. The "scanner" was a source of great enjoyment for Emmagene and she helped many people that she heard were stranded on the highway. Many times, she took folks home or bought them gasoline to help them get where they were going or provided food for people who might be hungry. Emmagene was a member of New Salem Baptist Church where she was well known for her Chicken and Dressing. Her church family was very important to her and she participated in activities such as the Cedar Springs area 4th Sunday Singings, Vacation Bible School and church family camping trips. Emmagene volunteered at Falls Community Hospital & Clinic, Meals on Wheels for Falls County and the Salvation Army. She was never one to mince words, called it like she saw it and was sometimes brutally honest. Her infectious laugh, smile and sense of humor garnered her many friends from all walks of life.
Emmagene was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Ethel Maines; brothers Leslie & Willard Maines; twin sister, Geraldene Nehring; husband, Howard Chamberlain; life-long friend Guy Nell Collinsworth; and son-in-law Tommy Joe Stelma.
Survivors include her children: Pam Stelma; Elaine Truett-Jackson and husband Larry; Jennifer Roberts and husband Mike; Joel Collinsworth and wife Betty; and Joni Montgomery and husband Don R. all of Marlin who she raised as "guilty until proven innocent"! Grandchildren include: Trey Stelma and wife Pia; Sarah Hefelfinger & husband Brian; Cody Truett and wife Angie; Amanda Neumann; Daisy Metcalf & husband Brad; Joel Collinsworth, Jr.; Natalie Collinsworth; Brenda Kay; Jerrod Macy; and Madison Macy and wife Ashley; and 11 great-grandchildren.
