Charles C. Stone, Jr., of Groesbeck and the Criswell community, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Limestone Medical Center, at age 85.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 24, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home.
Services will be held Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bill Wright of Mexia officiating. Burial will follow at the Criswell Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Stone, David Stone, Tim Smith, Tony LeNoir, Rusty Stone, Bobby Ray, and Jimmy Stone.
Charles Jr. was born on November 29, 1924 to Charles C. Stone and Shirley Mae Stone at Criswell. He grew up there and attended school at Big Hill and Ben Hur. He was drafted into the Army during World War II, and was discharged at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After the Army, Charles farmed a number of years at Criswell, and then went to work at the Mexia State School. He continued ranching as well. He loved horses and enjoyed horse trading, talking and visiting with people, and going to horse sales and cattle auctions. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Charles was united in marriage with Eunice Briggs on May 28, 1947 and they made their home at Criswell all their life, until they moved to the Groesbeck LTC Nursing and Rehab Center in 2006. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1997, and had been married 59 years when she passed away July 1, 2006.
Mr. Stone was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eunice; a brother, Marshall Stone; and his son, Danny Stone.
He is survived by two grandsons, Heath Pelton and Troy Stone; a sister, Louise Ray of Mart; brother, G. Z. “Peaches” Stone and wife Patricia of Groesbeck; brother, Billy K. Stone and wife Alta of Groesbeck; sister, Maxine Smith and husband Travis of Abilene; brother, W. N. Stone and wife Bernadette of Mexia; brother, Jack W. Stone and wife Martha of Groesbeck; sister, Martha LeNoir of Groesbeck; sister-in-law, Joyce Stone of Mart; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
