R. E. Holden Sr. of Marlin Dies
MARLIN (SPL) -- Richard Ellis Holden Sr., 77, of Marlin, died Monday morning in a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Adams Funeral Chapel, P. J. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Criswell Cemetery.
Mr. Holden was born April 14, 1895 in Tennessee, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Holden. He married the former Miss Verda Mae Hall on Nov. 17, 1912, at Elm Ridge. The couple lived and farmed in the Odds community all of their married life until Mr. Holden retired and they moved to Marlin in 1967. He was a member of the Texas Farm Bureau and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Coy Holden of Valley Mills and Rev. Ellis Holden Jr. of Coolidge; four daughters, Mrs. Aline Redwine, Mrs. Bessie Mae Payne, Mrs. Lessie Fay Vincent and Mrs. Edna Earl Eastwood, all of Fort Worth; a brother Edgar Holden of Waco; a sister, Mrs. M. E. Williams of Marlin; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
(Mr. Holden was preceded in death by his sons Ellis G. Holden and Dewayne E. Holden.)
