Myrtlene Smith
October 21, 1927 - November 11, 2012
Myrtlene Vinson Smith, 85, of Marlin, passed away Nov. 11, 2012, at her residence. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Adams Funeral Home.
Myrtlene was born Oct. 21, 1927, in Marlin, to Carl E. Vinson and Myrtle Hunter Vinson. She graduated from Marlin High School and attended TSCW in Denton. Myrtlene moved to California and went to work in banking, living there 40 years. She met and married Max Sears, and from this union two children were born, Linda Kae Sears Hackel and Craig H. Sears. She lived and worked in Southern California for almost 40 years. Myrtlene retired as a bank manager in Hermosa Beach, Calif. She then moved to Harker Heights.
Myrtlene was active in many clubs and organizations including a 60 plus year member of The Order of the Eastern Star. While in California, she was the International Western Counselor for Delta Theta Tau Sorority and member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. In Marlin she was past President of Marlin Evening Lions Club and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Marlin, Chapter 286. She was also a charter member of the Falls County Community Hospital Auxiliary, with numerous hours of volunteer service.
Myrtlene was preceded in death by her first husband, Max Sears; second husband, Winn Smith; and her brother, Carl Vinson, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda K. Hackel; son, Craig H. Sears; grandchildren, Brannon Evans and wife, Damon Evans and wife, Amy Watkins and husband, and Bridget Sears; numerous great grandchildren; and special friend, Tom Criswell.
