Oscar Wiley Shehorn
October 15, 1925 - April 2, 2012
Oscar Wiley Shehorn, 86, long-time resident of Temple, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at an Austin hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, in Waco. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple. No visitation is planned.
Wiley was born Oct. 15, 1925, in Marquez, Texas, to Henry K. and Kattie B. (Luttrell) Shehorn.
A graduate of Temple High School, he served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater in World War II on the carrier USS Hollandia. He married Willie Fern "Billie" Herrin on Nov. 23, 1947, in Temple. He worked in sales and right-of-way acquisitions for Lone Star Gas Co. for over 30 years, and demonstrated new gas appliances at the Texas State Fair in Dallas. An outstanding golfer, Wiley represented Lone Star Gas in many golf tournaments across the state, wining several trophies.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Willie Fern "Billie" Shehorn in 2005; one sister; and three brothers.
Survivors include sons, Bobby Shehorn of Austin, and David Shehorn and wife, Debbie, of Riesel; daughter, Kathy Shehorn of Austin; granddaughters, Jenna Shehorn of Mart, and Kristin Shehorn of Montrose, Colo.; sister, Norma Jean Kelso of Round Rock; several nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
