Bettie Jane Mendenhall
March 21, 1926 - June 30, 2016
Bettie Jane Horn Waffle Mendenhall, long-time resident of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on June 30, 2016 in Bartlesville, OK, after a brief illness, and in presence of loving family members. She was born in 1926 in Limestone County, Texas.
Bettie was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Hominy and will always be remembered for her big heart, kindness and generous service to the Church and the community of Hominy. She was also a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Many, many, generous meals were served from her small kitchen to all manner of friends and family members over the last eight decades. She graduated from High School in Mart, Texas. She married Paul Eldon Waffle and moved to Hominy in 1946. She worked in several occupations, as a worker building war munitions during World War II, as a telephone switchboard operator, as a sales clerk at the Pioneer Store, as a seamstress and union worker representative at Munsingwear, and as a union employee representative for the AFL-CIO in five states. She worked in the nursery of the First Baptist Church of Hominy for around 45 years and through this, touched many lives.
She is survived by many who will cherish her memory including her son, Paul Edward and wife Jeannie Waffle of Lamont, OK, daughter, Sherri Joanne Waffle and husband Dan Plummer of Lake Charles, LA, grandchildren, Christian Lance and Jennifer (Hopper) Holding of Hominy, OK, Kerri Waffle of Daytona Beach, Florida, Joshua Damion Waffle of Lamont, OK, Matthew Kyle Waffle of Ponca City, OK, Meghan Tear Plummer of Tuscaloosa, AL, Lee Kenyon Plummer of Eugene, OR, and great grandchildren, Raen Marguerite Holding, August Solomon Holding, Isabella Rose Holding, and Luiza Jane Holding, Raleigh Ember Waffle, Jetta Rose Waffle, and Tavish Waffle.
She was preceded in death by spouses, Paul Eldon Waffle and William Edgar Mendenhall, a son, David Edwin Waffle, parents, Henry Edward and Louisa (Caddell) Horn, sisters, Edna Fay Brummett, Virgie and husband Marion Favors, Lula Berle and husband Glynn Holder, Mary Beulah and husband Jay Badders, and brothers Nolan Hadren and wife Dorothy (Moles) Horn, and John Paxton and wife Lois Mae (Holder) Horn.
Funeral Services for Bettie will be Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Hominy, OK, with Pastor Mark Formby officiating.
Visitation for Bettie will be Sunday, July 3 at 1-5 p.m., and Tuesday, July 5 at 9-8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Hominy.
