Norma Lee Gilbert
March 28, 1925 - January 10, 2013
Norma Lee Gilbert went to her heavenly home on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at St. John's UCC in Otto, Texas with the Rev. Lee Zillmann and the Rev. Larry Felice officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel.
Norma was born March 28, 1925 in Otto, Texas, to Edwin O. and Edna Hoffman Haase. She attended school at Otto and graduated from Ben Hur High School. She married Curtis Meeker and one child, a daughter, Janet Elaine Meeker was born to this union. On May 26, 1969 she married James Sidney Gilbert, they enjoyed 28 years of marriage before his death on August 2, 1997. She lived in Waco where she worked for the Social Security office and then moved to Corpus Christi upon her marriage to Jim. Norma continued working for the Social Security office in Corpus Christi and retired after thirty years of service. Norma and Jim built a beautiful home at Canyon Lake and moved there in August 1985.
She worked as church secretary at Faith United Church in New Braunfels for several years. Because of health issues she moved to Mart to be closer to her family in January of 2010. She was a beautiful lady and enjoyed going to the theater, the movies, and she loved to go out to eat. She loved her family and was always so happy when her 3 great great granddaughters, Rustyn, Emersyn, and Emma came to see her. As long as her health permitted she attended football games and basketball games to see her great-granddaughter Skylar play basketball and cheer at the football games.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband James "Jim" Gilbert.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Fleet and husband, Ray, of Marlin; sister, Shirley Caddell and husband, Dwain, of Mart; grandson, Robert Craig "Bobby" Bowers and wife, Catherine, of Groesbeck; granddaughter, Robin Annette Sutton and husband, Mike, of Groesbeck; great-granddaughters, Autumn Owen and husband, Jeremy, of Groesbeck, Skylar Faith Sutton of Groesbeck, Rachel Woodruff and husband, C.J., of Austin; great-great-granddaughters, Rustyn Owen, Emersyn Owen and Emma Woodruff; nephews, Michael Caddell and wife, Sharon, and Marc Caddell and wife, Connie, all of Otto; nieces, Candace Caddell of Mart, Cara Sue Albright and husband, Milton, of Marlin; and numerous first cousins.
Pallbearers were Milton Albright, Jace Albright, Michael Caddell, Marc Caddell, Adam Deike and Randall Schaeper.
