Graveside services will be held Monday, April 25th, at 11:00 a.m., at Callisburg Cemetery in Callisburg, Texas. Pat Sharp of Gainesville, Texas, will be officiating. Visitation will be held at Herrington Funeral Home, Sunday, April 24th, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Herrington/Land of Memory, Palestine, TX.
Ruben Raymond Densman, 94, of Palestine, Texas, formerly a resident of Marlin, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016.
Raymond was born at his parents’ home outside of Lott, Texas., March 31st, 1922, to Causby Spencer Densman and Letha Franklin Densman. He attended school at Shields Academy in Falls County. Raymond was well known by close friends and family as Booger Red, due to his red hair and personality. He spent many years as an avid welder along the Texas coastline and was a former partner with Abate and Contella Harvesting, and ended his career as the Falls County Road & Bridge Administrator. Raymond enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting doves, and loved playing 42.
Raymond married Lucille Brizendine on October 14th, 1942; they were married 52 years. They had two children, Larry and Rama.
Raymond joined the US Army in November of 1942. He was a highly decorated WWII Veteran, having earned the Bronze Star, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68, American Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, plus others. During WWII, he was a POW, having been captured in Bayreuth, Germany, and marched to Austria. He was liberated by members of his own 5th Infantry 71st Division.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Jack, Alfred “Tince”, and Spencer, sisters Annie Faye, Ethel “Dutchie”, and Lillie.
Raymond is survived by son Larry Densman and wife Linda of Friendswood, daughter Rama Ham and husband David of Elkhart, brother Robert Densman and wife Daphna of Livingston, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, and many other family and friends.
