FUNERAL SERVICES HELD AT ODDS FOR MRS. J. D. CLEWIS
Deceased was Daughter of Early Settlers in Criswell Community - Sister of Marlin Man.
Funeral services for Mrs. J. D. Clewis, who died Monday at 9:30 a.m., were held at ten o'clock today at the Baptist church at Odds, conducted by Rev. Isaacs of Thornton, the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Clewis was, before her marriage, Miss Eudora Criswell, a daughter of the late W. M. Criswell and wife, who were pioneer residents of what is now the Odds community. She was born at what was and yet is known as the W. M. Criswell home place a few miles from Odds, and interment was made in the Criswell burial ground near the old home place.
The Clewis home, where she died, is on what was formerly known as the Barron ranch, six miles east of Odds.
She was stricken about a year ago, but regained her health to some extent, until about ten days before her death when she was again stricken, from which she never rallied.
Mrs. Clewis was a sister of T. L. Criswell of Marlin.
Mrs. Clewis was 63 years of age, and is survived by her husband, five sons and six daughters; John, Roy, Scott, Bewell and Randel Clewis and Mrs. Price Slaughter, Mrs. Floyd Gibson, Mrs. Wallace O'Neal, Mrs. Russel Richardson, Mrs. Thomas Andrews and Miss Leeartis Clewis.
