Alta Elizabeth Caddell, retired Otto postmaster
OTTO - Alta Elizabeth Caddell of Otto, a retired postmaster, died Thursday in a Waco hospital. She was 87.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Chapel in Marlin. Burial will be in Criswell Cemetery near Otto.
Mrs. Caddell was born March 9, 1906 in the Criswell Community of Falls County. She graduated from Otto Public School and had resided in the Otto Community all of her life.
She married Jasper L. Caddell Oct. 31, 1926 in Waco. He died April 19, 1964. Mrs. Caddell served as postmaster at Otto from 1955 until her retirement in 1975. She also owned and operated a general mercantile store in Otto until 1946 and operated a dress shop in Marlin from 1950 until 1955. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mart.
Survivors include a son, Dwain Caddell of Otto; six sisters, Gertrude Jernigan of Sheridan, Ark., Ora Breed of Regan, Mary Frances Hancock of McAllen, Nell Moore of Marlin, Betty Jo Barker of Bryan and Ruby Doris Hill of Rosenburg; a brother Neil Bower, of Garland; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
