Wanda Frances (Poyner) Burns
January 28, 1932 - August 28, 2021
Wanda Burns, 89, of Burleson, Texas passed away August 28, 2021. Wanda was born January 28, 1932 to parents Clayton Houston & Margaret (Maggie) Poyner. She was born in the small community of Woodbury in Hill County into a loving family of four sisters, two brothers & two half-sisters.
After a "school bus romance", she began dating James Robert Burns and on January 26, 1951 they married & were blessed with 70+ years of marriage.
Wanda was a strong support for her husband James and worked along beside him at many Texas congregations including Burkett, Trent, Lott, Georgetown, Hallmark (Highland), Everman, Burleson, Willow Park, Laguna Park and Bluff Dale. Wanda and James also did mission work in Regina, Saskatchewan & Kelowna, B.C. in Canada. Wanda became "Mom" to four children and "Granny" to nine grandchildren & eleven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, six sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband, James; children, Judy Burns, Ken Burns, Carla Downes & husband Greg, Mark Burns & wife Heather; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, along with other loved extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Solar Bibles Program through the Sunset School of Preaching 3723 34th St. Lubbock, Texas 79410 or The Eastern European Missions 777 Lonesome Dove Tr. Hurst, Texas 76054
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021 at the Burleson Church of Christ, 1150 NW John Jones Dr. The service will follow at 10:30 a.m. The burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Peoria Cemetery, (located between Hillsboro and Whitney), 2421 FM 1947, Hillsboro, Texas.
