Criswell Cemetery Association
The forty-fourth Criswell Memorial/Homecoming was held on June 11, 1995 at the Criswell Schoolhouse.
It was cloudy and cool at 70 degrees.
Thomas Criswell led singing and Hugh Durham gave the service. Mr. Durham asked each person inside the building to stand and give their name and how they were connected to the Criswell community.
At the afternoon meeting, Gary Smith, president welcomed and thanked everyone for coming. Nelda Brown read the minutes of June 12, 1994, which were approved. The workday, which was held on May 20, 1995, went well, and Gary thanked all that helped or made donations. Joyce Stone read the treasurer’s report.
New business: Labels will be used to mail out correspondence during the year. A map of the cemetery was discussed. J. E. Ray stated that there is a map that his son, Bobby Ray, made. He went on to say that some of the graves are at a different angle to the markers. The old graves were lined up with the old barb wire fence and the new graves are lined up with the new chain-link fence. Markers were placed in the past to mark lots, but they have been covered up with dirt or grass. A committee of Peaches Stone, B. A. Stone, J. E. Ray, Louise Ray, Barry Hartnett and John Semosh is to come up with a plan to mark lots and a map of lots.
Outgoing directors are J. E. Ray, B. A. Stone and John Walts. The following were nominated for new directors: John Semosh, Paul Woolverton, Barry Hartnett, Thomas Criswell Sr., Jean Mitchell and Winfred Stone. Jean Mitchell, Thomas Criswell Sr. and Barry Hartnett were elected.
