Minutes of Fortieth Annual Criswell Memorial Service
The fortieth annual Criswell Memorial Service was held on Sunday, June 9, 1991.
The cemetery and grounds were beautiful after an abundance of rain.
The business meeting was opened with prayer by Thomas Criswell, president. A hymn was sung and minutes were read. Treasurers report was given by Joyce Stone. We discussed establishing our own board of trustees; three trustees and two alternates. George Stone made a motion to change to CD’s, seconded by Billy Kyle Stone; motion carried. Nelda Brown made motion to let directors select trustees; Billy Kyle Stone seconded; motion carried. The nominating committee was Philip Weathers, Billy K. Stone and Winfred Stone.
The memorial service began at 11:00 a.m. We sang “God Bless America” and Philip Weathers gave a prayer for soldiers in the Desert Storm battle. Jane Barron’s son is still in Saudi Arabia. Cara, Jace and Sunny Albright sang “God’s Green Pastures.”
Mortuary list given by Jean Mitchell had the following names since last year: Truitt Talley, Algie Breed, Mae Bonner, Henry Dunn, Mae Krumnow, Robert Wolf, Shirley Stone, Reba Caddell Henderson, Lillian Stone Caddell, Mrs. Freddie Wolf, Fay Bonner Coppedge and Ruby Walts Vargas.
The memorial address was given by Marian Cross Longbottom. She spoke on “What is God Like.” She and her husband have been missionaries for many years and now they reside in Waco. Her address was followed by prayer for the noon meal.
At the afternoon directors meeting, the recent vandalism of the building was discussed. Gene Hudgens’ bid on repairing broken windows and doors, and installing a handrail at the west door was accepted. There was some discussion about getting water at the cemetery. The trustees appointed were: O. L. Grisham, Joyce Stone and G. Z. Stone; with alternates Thomas Criswell and J. E. Ray. The names submitted by nominating committee for directors were: Betty Crawford, G. Z. Stone, Timothy Weathers, Nelda Brown and Martha LeNoir. The three elected were: Betty Crawford, Timothy Weathers and G. Z. Stone. Officers for 1992 are President - Thomas Criswell; Vice-President - G. Z. Stone; Secretary - Shirley Caddell; and Treasurer - Joyce Stone.
