Thirty-Seventh Annual Memorial Service
The thirty-seventh annual Criswell Memorial Service was held on Sunday, June 12, 1988.
The program chairman, Phillip Weathers opened the service with a hymn and prayer by Thomas Criswell. Oscar Grisham, president, thanked those who had gone beyond their duties to get everything ready for this day. There was a discussion on replacing the tables. George Stone had a bid for metal tables at $250.00 each. John Thomas, a welder, would build ten tables, 20ft by 3ft by 3ft tall for $2,490.64. This bid was secured by Oscar Grisham.
The mortuary list had the following names: Bertha Walts, Mrs. Young Sanders, Lois Warneke, Othella Durham Stone, Thelma Walts, T. S. Densman, R. C. Walts, Mina Stone, Billy Criswell, Willie Mae Criswell Erskine, Elsie Clemmons, Bertha McClane, J. C. Criswell, Perry Durham and Marshall Woodlock.
Special music “He Touched Me” was sung by Ora Breed and Sandra Weathers. Phillip Weathers’ address was based on the scripture John 3:16. The service adjourned with prayer.
The directors held a short meeting in the afternoon. The three new directors elected were Louie Wolf, Winfred Stone and Billy Kyle Stone. Thomas Criswell was appointed to replace Tom E. Criswell’s two year term. The officers elected were Philip Weathers, president and program chairman; Johnny Etheridge, vice-president; Shirley Caddell, secretary and Joyce Stone, treasurer. Building committee members are O. L. Grisham and George Stone; business manager, J. E. Ray.
