Criswell Homecoming Is Held On Sunday
The twenty-first Annual Criswell Cemetery Memorial Homecoming was held Sunday, June 11, at the Criswell Community Center. A large crowd attended with visitors from many parts of the state.
Special recognitions were made. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Clonts of Knox City, and Mrs. Mary Frances Weaver from McAllen traveled the greatest distance. Oscar Bonner was recognized as the oldest person present.
The individual family plots were honored with flowers for the homecoming affair.
The floral arrangements for the auditorium were furnished by Mrs. Alta Caddell and Mrs. George Stone.
Activities for the day began at 10:30 a.m. with Thomas Criswell as Master of Ceremonies and song leader. Mrs. Aubrey Stone was pianist and Mrs. George Stone was program chairman.
The program began with congregational singing. Prayer was given by Louie Hicks. The President of the Association, Billy Criswell, welcomed the visitors. The welcome address was presented by Nancy Vanek. “The Ninety and Nine” was sung by Louie Hicks.
The Mortuary list was read by Mrs. Jewel Rucker. The reading honored family members who had passed away since the last reunion.
The Memorial Prayer was given by Thomas Criswell. Mrs. Boone Roberts and Louie Hicks sang
“Neath The Olive Tree.”
The Memorial Address was given by Mrs. Boone Roberts, and the benediction by Mrs. Rucker. At noon a basket lunch was served on tables under the shade trees.
At 1:30 p.m. a business meeting was held with Billy Criswell presiding. Four new Directors were elected. They are: Mrs. JoAnn Milnes, Mrs. Louise Ray of Marlin, George Stone of Mart, and Marrero Cross of Groesbeck.
Donations were made for the upkeep of the cemetery and also, for the trust fund for the cemetery. A sing-song was held during the afternoon.
