Memorial Event Held At Criswell Cemetery
The fifteenth annual Criswell Cemetery Memorial Homecoming was held Sunday, June 12, at the Criswell Community center. The day was sunshiny with plenty of breeze, which made it a pleasant day for the extra large crowd that attended. There were visitors from all parts of the state present.
The Community Center grounds were clean and freshly mowed. Also, the cemetery was profuse with both fresh and artificial wreaths which made it appropriate for picture taking.
Permanent stands have been built for tables, and now permanent tops will be added which will be handy for homecomings and family reunions and picnics.
A program was planned by the program chairman, Mrs. George Stone, which began at 11 a.m.
Thomas Criswell was in charge of the congregational singing of “Sunlight” and “When We All Get To Heaven.” The Rev. Fred Wolf was master of ceremonies. Mrs. Aubrey Stone was pianist. Little Carl Baron gave a junior welcome.
Shannon Criswell gave the welcoming address. Sharon Potts gave the response. Mrs. Jane Baron sang “Precious Lord” and “Breathe on Me.” Mrs. Donald Reams gave a memorial prayer and sang “Face To Face.”
Mrs. Jewel Rucker read the mortuary list which included the names of Kemp Brown, George Broxton, Shelton Bresenham, Mrs. Edd Horn, Mrs. Stella Wolf Woods, Mrs. John Erskine, Mrs. Turner Criswell, Mrs. Mary Louise Bresenhan and Mrs. Clint Erskine. Mrs. Oscar Bonner paid a tribute to the memory of those passed on and also gave a reading.
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Clonts of Knox City, Texas, were recognized as traveling the greatest distance (375 miles) to attend. Mrs. Clonts was formerly Dovie Durham.
T. T. (Turner) Criswell was recognized as being the oldest person attending. He is 82.
The memorial address was delivered by Dr. Dwayne Fitt.
The benediction was spoken by the Rev. Fred Wolf, and he also gave the invocation for the meal.
At noon, a basket lunch was served on tables under the shade trees.
After lunch, a business meeting was held with the president, Thomas Criswell, in charge. The minutes and treasurer’s report were read by Mr. Criswell for the secretary-treasurer, Mrs. C. C. Stone. Contributions were made for the upkeep of the cemetery and also the community center building.
Officers and directors were elected for the coming year, as follows: President, Thomas Criswell; vice president, C. C. Stone; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. C. C. Stone; business manager, A. W. Walts; program chairman, Mrs. George Stone; food chairman, Mrs. Dwain Caddell. The directors are G. W. Stone, Elmer Smith, W. N. Stone, Fred Broxton, C. C. Stone, Oscar Bonner, A. W. Walts, Thomas Criswell and Dwain Caddell.
