13th Annual Memorial Homecoming Is Held at Criswell Community Center
The thirteenth annual Criswell Cemetery Memorial Homecoming was held Sunday, June 14, at the Criswell Community Center.
The cool weather made it pleasant and enjoyable for a large crowd. Friends and relatives from all parts of the state were in attendance.
The community center grounds and cemetery were clean and profuse with flowers, both fresh and artificial.
Several new monuments had been added to the cemetery, and an electric light has been installed at the gate which lights up at night for the benefit of visitors to the cemetery.
O. N. Campbell was master of ceremonies for a program beginning at 11 a.m. Mrs. Aubrey Stone was pianist for the program. Thomas Criswell was in charge of the congregational singing. Little Carl Baron from Caldwell gave a welcome. Dinah Densman of Waco gave the address of welcome.
Gene Brown of Marlin gave the response. Mrs. Jane Baron of Caldwell sang “Why Should He Love Me So” and “Rock of Ages.” Mrs. Ivey Durham Moon of Mart gave the Memorial Prayer. Mrs. Don Sandhoff of Marlin gave a Memorial Reading.
Mr. Campbell gave a tribute in memory of the loved ones who have died and also read the Mortuary list for the past year, which included names of Wilburn Bowers, Ivan Keith Weaver, John Erskine, Emmitt Dowell, Obey Carter, Jasper Caddell, Herman (Buck) Vaughn, Louis Bowers and Cliff McCoy.
Rev. Freddie Wolf of Murcheson closed the program with a prayer.
At noon, a basket lunch was served on tables under shade trees. C. C. Stone gave the invocation.
After lunch a business meeting was held with the president, Thomas Criswell, in charge.
The secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Chester Tate, read the minutes and gave the treasurer’s report.
Contributions were made for the upkeep of the cemetery.
Officers elected are: President, Thomas Criswell; vice president, C. C. Stone; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Chester Tate; business manager, A. W. Walts; program chairman, Mrs. George Stone. Directors are: Elmer Smith, A. W. Walts, Fred Broxton, A. J. Wolf, W. N. Stone, Dwain Caddell, Oscar Bonner and Thomas Criswell.
A sing-song was held. Those leading were Rev. Freddie Wolf, Carlene Smith and Thomas Criswell, accompanied by Mrs. Aubrey Stone and Winfred Stone at the piano.
