Large Crowd At Criswell Homecoming; McCoy Re-elected President Sunday
A large crowd attended the ninth annual Criswell Cemetery Association Memorial Homecoming Day, Sunday, June 12, at the Criswell community center.
The cemetery and community center grounds were attractive for the Sunday visitors.
The steel fence all around the cemetery is a project of the association and is to be completely paid out
in 1961.
At 11 a.m., a program was presented under the direction of Mrs. George Stone as the emcee. Thomas Criswell was in charge of the congregational singing, and Mrs. C. A. McCoy was pianist, and was accompanist for the special singing.
Two congregational songs were sung, led by Mr. Criswell. The welcome address was given by Amy Tate, the response by Aubrey Stone. Songs, “Sweet Hour of Prayer,” and “Precious Memories” were by Mrs. Addie Barnett and Mrs. Raymond Brown.
A memorial reading was given by Mrs. Floyd Shook.
The mortuary list was read by Mrs. George Stone and included the following names: Mary Elisabeth Ethridge, Roy Clewis, Jim Broxton, Walter Wolf, George Simmons, Kermit Simmons, Mrs. May Simmons, Rev. Aubrey Briggs, Earl M. Lenoir, W. H. (Bill) Stone, E. M. Erskine and Garland Bowers.
The memorial prayer was by Albert Wolf, and the Memorial Address was delivered by Thomas Bartlett Jr., Fred Wolf dismissed with prayer.
The invocation was given by C. C. Stone. At noon a basket lunch was served on tables under shade trees. After lunch, congregational songs were led by Fred Wolf, Travis Criswell, Thomas Criswell and others.
A business meeting was held with President C. A. McCoy presiding. Minutes of last year’s homecoming meeting were read by the secretary, Thomas Criswell. Contributions were made for the upkeep of the cemetery.
The nominating committee, G. W. Stone, A. W. Walts, Elmer Smith and H. F. Stone; nominated for president, C. A. McCoy; for vice-president, J. E. Ray; secretary-treasurer, Thomas Criswell; business manager, C. C. Stone; and directors, J. L. Caddell, A. W. Walts, Fred Broxton, H. F. Stone Sr., A. J. Wolf and Thomas Criswell, were all elected.
O. N. Campbell furnished the public address system.
